Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay
alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. And pray
for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s
mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike (Ephesians 6:18-19).
Picture with me in your mind our first parents—walking
through that primeval garden that God gave them as their first home. Imagine
with me that Adam and Eve were perpetually alert to the presence of the
God who shared their world. For them, nothing was more ordinary than the
extraordinary encounters they had with God—day in and day out. In fact, life
was prayer; prayer was life.
When their obedience was put to the test they failed and
their world was turned upside down. Sin entered into the world and there became
enmity between God and them. Prayer no longer was natural, and God
doesn’t always seem as present. So prayer has become what we have made it. It
is no longer a conversation between two people who love each other. Our version
of prayer involves much more talking than listening. The problem with that is
we seldom hear God’s voice.
Prayer is part of the way we do faith. And it’s not just talking
to God because I can’t do anything else. Prayer is one of the most
significant ways we work out our faith. Prayer is not simply talking to God.
Prayer is the attunement of the heart to His presence!
The Prayer ministry at FCC exists to increase prayer in the lives of
believers. We stand with you in this by offering encouraging words about
prayer, by presenting tools to help you pray more effectively, and by creating
opportunities for the church to come together in prayer.
May God bless you richly as you attune your heart to God.
