In Central and South Asia there are a number of groups of people isolated by language and geography. In his position of International Linguistics Consultant John provides technical support for language and translation projects around the world. His current assignments are developing alphabets for 7 languages, analyzing the grammar of another language where translation is planned, and working with native speakers in Central Asia, analyzing their own languages to support translation already in process.

Debbie is the Registrar for the Summer Institute of Linguistics in North Dakota where students are trained in linguistics, literacy and translation. John and Debbie are both at the Institute during the summer, and during the academic year Debbie gets students enrolled in distance courses.
